  • City of Parksville Receives $7 Million in Infrastructure Funding Through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community Stream

    The City of Parksville is receiving $7 million through the Strategic Priorities Fund. This federally funded program supports infrastructure projects that are beyond the financial capacity of a single local government, under the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community stream in BC.

    The City of Parksville is using a combination of grant funding from this stream, the Growing Communities Fund, the Community Works Fund, and reserves to improve and upgrade the Parksville Fire Station without impacting tax rates for residents. The renovation project includes additional fire truck bays, a dedicated exercise room and dormitory space for firefighters, and improved equipment storage, all designed to be resilient in a post-disaster situation. This project will make sure firefighters have safe, functional, and reliable spaces to operate from during emergencies, while upgrading a facility that’s built to withstand the growing call volume and demand of the community.

    On July 30, 2026, the federal and provincial governments along with the Union of BC Municipalities announced a federal investment of more than $152 million to support 54 community infrastructure and capacity-building projects. The Parksville Fire Station Renovation is one of the 54 recently announced projects.

    The BCSF Community stream is a transfer-based program that provides $2.5 billion per year in funding to communities across Canada. The Province of British Columbia receives over $326 million annually from this stream, which is administered by the Union of BC Municipalities and distributed to local governments through the Community Works Fund, Strategic Priorities Fund, and Metro Vancouver Regional Fund.
