Parksville Fire Rescue volunteer paid on-call and career firefighters provide fire and emergency response services in the Parksville Fire Protection Area. Our firefighters are highly skilled professionals who value integrity, honesty, selflessness, commitment, courage, and are hardworking and family oriented. We provide an outstanding training program, the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and the chance to join a dedicated team.
In 2023, our department has responded to almost 800 calls: structure fires, rescues, motor vehicle incidents, medical assistance, and public service requests. We rely on the commitment of paid on-call volunteer firefighters dedicated to public safety and community service and offer:
Professional firefighter certification and ongoing training.
Opportunity to serve your community.

Finding the right balance between family, work and volunteering is challenging, but also rewarding. We are your neighbours, co-workers, family, and friends and we need your help with our recruiting efforts; please encourage those who may be interested to contact us. Our members serve the Parksville Fire Protection Area which covers the City of Parksville and contract areas within the Regional District of Nanaimo which include San Pareil, Morningstar, Columbia Beach, French Creek, and the Fourneau Road, Wildgreen, and Martindale Road areas. The population of the fire protection area is about 20,000, increasing substantially in the summer.
Do you have what it takes to be a firefighter?
Candidates for paid on-call firefighters should be:
19 years of age or older (junior member - age 16)
Healthy and physically fit (medical and fitness screening required), non-smoker
Good driver (valid BC driver’s licence and good driving record
Of good character (RCMP security check required)
Able to attend weekday evening training sessions and occasional weekend training
Live in the Parksville Fire Protection area (ideally within City of Parksville boundaries)
Daytime availability preferred.
