Hirst Avenue West between McMillan Street South and the Alberni Highway now has its first layer of asphalt, with Knappett Industries completing this work on November 29 ahead of winter storms. This base layer of pavement will provide road users with a smooth and tidy surface throughout the winter, with the final layer of pavement scheduled for the spring. Since this is the base layer of asphalt, you may notice that some of the other infrastructure is a little higher or lower than the pavement’s surface; these elevation differences will be addressed with the final layer of pavement.

The closure of Memorial Avenue at its intersection with the Alberni Highway is now in effect, and work has begun at this intersection to install new manholes for the underground utility renewals. Local traffic is being maintained on Memorial Avenue for access to businesses and residences.

Please continue to travel the work sites with care and be patient with construction crews and traffic control personnel who are working through weather to complete this project in a timely manner. Your continued understanding is very much appreciated, and we’re here if you have questions.
