Transportation Master Plan Next Steps

July 8, 2025

NEWS RELEASE

At the July 7 meeting, Parksville Council received the transportation master plan as provided by consultant, McElhanney. The plan along with engagement summary report, existing conditions report, future traffic analysis, and multi-modal maps are now available for review on Let’s Talk Parksville.

Comments from residents about the plan are now welcome at Let’s Talk Parksville and will help to inform the 2026-2030 financial plan process set to begin in the fall. All public comments along with proposed transportation projects will be presented for Council consideration as part of this process.

A Committee of the Whole meeting will be held at 1 pm on Monday, July 21 as part of the regular Council meeting to provide Council with the opportunity to discuss the transportation master plan in detail. The public is welcome to attend, and the meeting will be livestreamed from our website. A staff report at the July 21 meeting will provide a summary of projects already underway or planned as part of the City’s capital plan.

The new transportation master plan will be a guiding strategic document which will address current and future needs for all modes (auto, pedestrian, transit, cycling, and micro-mobility) and which supports the Official Community Plan. The goal is to provide a safe, efficient and accessible transportation network to support a high quality of life for residents and efficient mobility for all.

Since this project began in late 2023, the public has been actively engaged through participation in three public open house presentations and three online surveys. The “what we heard” reports as well as presentations and reference documents, may be viewed on Let’s Talk Parksville. The consultant for the City’s transportation master plan process presented an overview of the plan to Council at the April 9 Committee of the Whole meeting. This presentation may be viewed on Let’s Talk Parksville.
