Transportation Master Plan Update

April 10, 2025

NEWS RELEASE

The consultant for the City’s transportation master plan process, Matthew Browning with McElhanney, presented an overview to Council at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on April 9. This presentation may be viewed on Let’s Talk Parksville.

The new transportation master plan will be a guiding strategic document which will address current and future needs for all modes (auto, pedestrian, transit, cycling, and micro-mobility) and which supports the Official Community Plan. The goal is to provide a safe, efficient and accessible transportation network to support a high quality of life for residents and efficient mobility for all.

Several projects identified in the draft master transportation plan are scheduled for design and/or construction in 2025:

  • Alberni Highway sidewalk and active transportation improvements, Stanford Avenue West to Lee Avenue
  • Stanford Avenue East utility replacement and road reconstruction, McCarter to Shelly
  • Parksville pathway project
  • Jensen Avenue West utility and road renewal with sidewalk addition
  • Bus stop improvements
  • Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) installations on certain existing crosswalks
  • New crosswalks where needed and which warrant support

Since this project began in late 2023, the public has been actively engaged through participation in three public open house presentations and three online surveys. The “what we heard” reports as well as presentations and reference documents, may be viewed on Let’s Talk Parksville.
