We love that Parksville residents have plenty ideas on how to make our City a better place. We encourage you to submit them on the “what and how” we can improve the City. Please also take a moment to let us know what you love about the City and what were doing right!  When submitting your ideas, we're asking that you keep them positive and forward thinking, focusing more on the solution and less on the problem. Let's all work together to make Parksville even better!

Canada Day was a big disappointment this year.

I hope that this approach is effective in assessing public opinion on issues

As a frequent walker from pioneer crescent area, crossing the busy highway (main drag) between shelly road and mcvickers is impossible. Why is there no crosswalk at mill so its easier to access the “ community center” that is there now? It would also help to slow down the speeders flying through that end of town. It is like a racetrack where the road expands into four lanes after crossing the bridge. Very unsafe for pedestrians in this area.

I understand the car show on the August long weekend at the community park has been cancelled because the volunteer group holding the event was not notified in a reasonable amount of time that their permit was accepted. I am curious as to who approves or denies such permits for events like this in the community park. Why did this happen

Lets Talk Parksville great forum for participation. City is doing a great job in many areas.
Note: The 4 way stop at Despard and Moilliet is a worthy stop gap - though the speed of vehicles along Moilliet is generally excessive. It would be nice if drivers respected not only the proximity of school age pedestrians along this corridor; though also the number of senior residences along that same corridor. elongated. intermittent speed bumps perhaps....?
On another note; providing affordable, new rental housing in our community where workers who are tasked with providing services (to our highly represented senior aged community) is a noble pursuit and forward thinking planning exercise. It is too bad the rental housing did not plan for more bicycle storage within these new complexes....there appears to be balconies strewn with bicycles and storage bins...not cool as future tourists drive through the new gateway to our fine city. Noteworthy is Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach, where their gateway is lined with fine homes and a tree lined boulevard....just saying. Our waterfront, on the other hand, rivals the most beautiful waterfronts on Earth.
Kindest Regards, Wayne Stremel

I find how the city is treating the disadvantaged, the poor, homeless and those with substance abuse issues to be extremely offensive.
The city seems interested in projects that build infrastructure and support for the more affluent and especially business owners, but our general community is being dismissed and ignored.
The city leadership is fine with building benches, garbage cans and even revamping the downtown core while actively attacking community support institutions like Orca Place and even giving away our community centre in a secret series of meetings.
Why was this page not used?
Obviously the city leadership is aware that there actions are not only against the general populations wishes, but they must also be aware of the malicious intent that is being acted upon.
Please return to community service and away from the current anti-poor agenda.

I had the opportunity to be at the Parksville Community Convention Centre this weekend. It is a really nice facility with really dedicated staff working there. I truly hope that the City of Parksville DOES NOT close this facility - but continues to work with the Centre to promote it...continue to use it and support it! I think that it will be a facility that the city will need as we grow and flourish and closing will be short sighted.

we Are in the early stages of considering the addition of a rental suite in our home to allow my mother-in-law a place to live where she will be better connected to family for assistance with her daily living and to be closer to parksville’s Amenities (beach, shopping and community). She currently rents in Coombs but no longer drives so she’s feeling isolated. We have no planning or building experience so will look to hire a contractor to help us through the process of design, permits, construction etc. The short term plan would be to have my mother-in-law live with us for the duration of life. We would then have the chance to rent it out for income later. This got me thinking about an opportunity for the city to host an information session geared towards homeowners, to discuss the possibility/opportunity to add a rental suite to their existing property. There may be other home owners interested in adding a rental which would add some much needed rentals to help with the housing shortage in our community. I know there are many rules about what is permitted and to ensure safety of accommodation. I’d love to see a presentation hosted by the city to share more information!
