One Year Late to the Party - 2021

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and cancellation of events in our community, the City has postponed 75th birthday celebrations planned for June 2020. Instead, we will celebrate our 75th in style on Saturday, June 19, 2021. We will be one year older but who is counting? The City recognizes the tremendous impact of this pandemic on the many annual events and festivals held in our community each summer. We look forward to celebrating all our successes in 2021, just one year late to the party!

Happy birthday Parksville! For the past four months, we have changed how we go about our day-to-day lives, adjusting to the impacts of living during a pandemic. We have changed how we spend time with friends and family and how we do business in our community. I know for many, adjusting to the new normal has not been easy and understand just how frustrating, challenging and daunting it has been for residents and their families.

Parksville residents are truly amazing! Collectively, we have minimized the spread of the virus in our community. You have done your part to keep us all safe and in one of the oldest communities in Canada. My sincere thank you to Parksville residents for stepping up; it is heartwarming to see how you have all come together. Your shared commitment to success has allowed us to flatten the curve and with physical distancing, you will continue to keep your family and friends safe.

June 19, 2020, is the City’s 75th birthday and plans for celebration events were well underway but like so many other events and festivals in our City, they have been postponed or will be held virtually. I do look forward to when we can safely celebrate again in-person but for now, out of caution and concern for public health, we are all doing our part to stay home and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Until then, happy 75th birthday Parksville! My wish for you… stay safe, stay well and enjoy your summer! Although apart but together, we celebrate our City and our community.

Mayor Ed Mayne City of Parksville
