Running for Office in Local Government

To be eligible as a candidate in a local government election at the time of nomination, you must: 

  1. Be a Canadian citizen; AND
  2. Be, or will be, 18 years of age or older on or before general voting day; AND
  3. Have lived in BC for at least six months; AND
  4. Have not been disqualified by any law or statute from being nominated, elected, or holding office.

There is no requirement for a candidate to be a resident or to own property in the municipality.
